Title: Progress News ~ Live-a-Live 2.0 close to completion
Post by: Gideon Zhi on January 13, 2008, 09:10:15 AM
It´s taken a whole lot longer than anyone could have predicted, but I think we´ve finally fixed all of the little niggling technical issues. One particularly nasty one, just resolved, would corrupt your save data and replace characters with multiple Oersteds.

The scripts are all edited save for the final chapter, but of course due to that previously-mentioned save corruption, I need to restart the game from the beginning. Provided a speedy replay and no further technical problems (and maybe some wrangling with SNES9X´s cheat engine) an in-house betatest should be coming pretty soon, with a release following shortly thereafter. No promises, though! We thought the technicals had been resolved last September, but look how wrong we were!

Well, I'd be excited...but what's the point? We all know Gid's secretly finished the thing years before he claims to have started working on it.

I'm onto you, Gideon Zhi! If that is your real moniker!!! You with your supernatural translatimizing powers!!!

Super!  The perfect excuse to replay LaL.  I am anticipating this very highly indeed.

It's quite a big improvement over the previous patch; hope you get everything squared away.

Gideon Zhi: Would you be willing to publicly or privately divulge any name changes for the main characters or so forth inbetween the two patches BEFORE 2.0 is released? I may soon (if school doesn't swamp me that is) be writing an article on Live a Live for Hardcore Gaming 101, and I think such knowledge would assist me in writing a rough draft. I say this now because I don't know when the new patch is coming out (and do not wish to ask), and I have a feeling Discoalucard/Kurt may put me on a time frame if I don't produce work soon.

E-Mail is in my profile.

Any possible changes are as follows:

No changes to Caveman, Scifi, Present Day, Near Future. (Though some of the wrestlers' names have changed.)

Kungfu is: The Master, Li Kuugo, Sammo Hakka, Yuan Jou. The style is
Xin Shan Quan, and is what you input on the name-entry screen.

Ninja is: Oboro(-maru in the dialogue), Ryoma, O-Robo.

Western is: Sundown, Maddog.

Medieval is: Oersted, Straybow, Hash, Uranus.

Need the wrestlers or anything else?

Jackie Iaukea, Max Morgan, Great Asia, Tula Han, Namcat, Moribe Seishi. I think Iaukea's name is the only one that really changed.

Oh, and Cube's "original" name is now Rover.

It's also worth mentioning that some of the default names (e.g. Xin Shan Quan) are longer than 6 characters, but all user-input names are still confined to a 6 character limit.

Great Asia

I know this hasn't actually changed, but I still feel really compelled to make a G Gundam joke every time I see that name.

I mean, c'mon! He's in the chapter where you go around fighting people all across the globe, for Luna's sake! It CAN'T be a complete coincidence!

The school of the undefeated of the east. The winds of kings zenshin, keiretsu, tempa, kyoran. Look, the east is burning red!

Sorry... But yeah, all Masaru needs is a version of Shining/Burning finger... And if you look at the Buriki Daioh chapter, it seems alot like Evangelion *nod*.

That's not even counting the fact that the Kung Fu Chapter pretty much is the standard variation of the theme.

Ninjas will try to attack your sensei in the night, and martial artists will always try to kill your students when you're not there to protect them. It's how it goes.

and of course, at the end, the master dies and the reamining student takes up the school... But atleast it doesn't  have the bad lip-synching of the movies *nod*

I dun know. That sometimes adds flair.

Except when they name the moves wrong and the voices are annoyin'...
