I'm not sure if this is a known issue yet, but I seem to be unable to see any text I type in to text boxes, such as this one I am typing into to write this message.

Just in cae this is an uncommon problem, I am using Firefox 1.0 to view this page right now on Windows XP Pro SP2.

(The only reason I was able  to write this so well without serious errors is that I can highlight the text to place it on a blue background so I can actually see it. It must be a case of white text on a white background.)

Edit: Note that I can read posts just fine, it is only the text boxes that can be typed into which are troublesome.

That sounds like a CSS thing. My guess is that it's still using the old CSS from before the update.

Wow, it seems to be working now, did you fix it already!?

Title: Re: New Forum: bugs, issues, comments go h
Post by: Gideon Zhi on September 12, 2007, 09:41:18 PM
Nah, you probably just reloaded the css :) I had the same issue earlier while I was tinkering with the board.

Also, incidentally, server-side avatars have been enabled. There isn't much there at present - just a smattering of Majin Tensei 2 and Super Robot Wars stuff, but there'll be more in the future. You can still link to offsite avatars, too.

They're auto-resized to 64x64 as well, by the way.

Ahh, I gotcha. That is the bad side of user caching, eh? Anyways, no other issues so far. It looks great and I am so glad you managed to keep Gon. :)

Hm, I didn't realize getting a new Pantheon would be THAT calming for Gon.

Question, is double postin' allowed/tollerated or otherwise?

I'd say it's generally not frowned upon, but don't do it to excess.

Just the way I likes it.

Thank ye.

Also, New Pantheon seems better then I thought it'd be. Woot.

Hm, I seem to have the same problem Drake333 has... this is annoying.

Besides that, no issues here. Everything's working like a charm.

Also, wow, when was the last time Gon wasn't flipping out? He must really be happy with the new forum...

Heh, looks like the 64x64 image size limit gets applied to images embedded in posts as well. I'll look into disabling that.

Edit: Should work alright this way I suppose (may need to reload the CSS file again).

The only think I noticed so far is that the text occasionally goes over the Avatar image, making it hard to read.

Edit: Forgot to mention, using Firefox 2.0.0.6, Windows Vista, 1280x1024 resolution.

I get the same thing actually in Firefox 2, on XP Pro SP2.

Also, datschge, a simple text editor for that thing we talked about last week will work instead of a big complicated page, provided it -is- linked to in the admin panel.

Will do.

As for the overlapping issue which specific threads/posts are affected? The width of messages is set so that text/message content shouldn't spill over to the avatars, so it's curious that it's happening nevertheless.

I did some testing with Firebug, and setting with DIV width to 440px seems to fix the issue in Firefox, but I'm not sure how it would look in IE.

Ok thanks, I applied that. Looks a little narrow in Konqueror/Safari/IE, but as long as it servers its purpose it should be fine.
this is a spoiler
Will show up as WARNING, SPOILER AHEAD! this is a spoiler.
Browsers not supporting CSS (or using a cached CSS file, in which case you should reload the site until it's refreshed) will show a text warning instead the whitening out.

Oh, didn't notice this thread till now.

I'm having problems with the panel on the upper right corner of the screen, the one that shows you the unread posts since your last visit and and the new replies to your posts. Using the 'Mark all messages read' option gives me this:

An error has occurred!

Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.

Obviously, I tried logging out and back in and it didn't help... =/

Also, a question: how do I 'unsuscribe' from threads so that messages after mine don't get reported? Sometime I post a single message on a topic and then keep getting reply notifications (on the board, not my e-mail).

Ouch, I'm getting it as well so it looks like everyone gets it. No idea about the cause, will have to investigate it.

Hmpf, I never used the "Notify me of replies" feature so I honestly have no idea how it looks like and works... I'd assume they are listed at Notifications and Email (http://agtp.romhack.net/pantheon/index.php?action=profile;sa=notification) in your profile perhaps?

No, it's not an e-mail notification, I meant the...

Hey, (username)!

Show X unread posts since last visit
Show Y new replies to your posts

I don't want all  topics I posted in to appear on Y. =P

My guess is that this is caused by database errors. Occasionally romhack.net's SQL server can't handle the amount of traffic it receives, and I get an email saying that there's been a database error. That happened last night; my guess is that you were an unfortunate victim.

Eh... Can't you just ignore them then? Or do you want me to remove that link altogether so you are not bothered anymore? ^^;;

Gideon, I'm pretty sure it's not a database error as that would affect other parts of the site as well. Just one function seems to be broken (it just doesn't work anymore), may have be that way since when the forum was updated to version 1.1.4.

I've a little request:

Since we have custom user titles, instead of showing up just on our profile pages, could they appear in our posts as well? For example, right below our avatars, immediately to their left or in said picture's place if none has been picked. Perhaps in bold so it stands out from the body of the post's text.

Title: Re: New Forum: bugs, issues, comments go here

Didn't want to increase the lowest possible msg height so I just put the group title next to the user name. Alright?

Okay, for the past half a day, all AGTP tabs in my browser (Firefox) are stuck at like 95% loading. I mean, everything's there, but the progress bar just won't go that last bit.

Any ideas?

Edit: Okay, it's not doing it anymore. Maybe I was just using the same window for way too long.

Alright, double post *after* an edit, but here goes...

How do you insert pictures into a post here, like from Photobucket 'n' stuff? I suppose I could just link to them, but it'd be nice to know for future reference.

Let's leave it off for now.

Also, I had a report on IRC the other day that our capcha's broken. Can anyone verify?

Title: Re: New Forum: bugs, issues, comments go here
Post by: Datschge on July 21, 2008, 02:53:13 AM
Looking at the register page with a browser not logged in I can't see any capcha image indeed. No idea why it isn't loaded or whether the sound version still works. As I never dabbled with this I doubt I can help...
(The last user joining was Killa B on the 12th this month, wonder if the capcha was still working then?)

Title: Re: New Forum: bugs, issues, comments go h
Post by: Datschge on July 12, 2009, 09:34:33 AM
I've added a new member group which isn't allowed to start threads and can only see this particular subboard, Asgard, as well as Gan Eden, among other restrictions. In the future new members will be part of that group and have to have two posts first to be able to see other subboards and start threads.

I'm also considering removing zero post lurkers, they account for ~1350 of all members.

If you have more than one post the changes shouldn't affect you at all. Let'me know what you think and if you experience any issues.

Title: Re: New Forum: bugs, issues, comments go here
Post by: Sakura77 on July 12, 2009, 03:58:13 PM
I'm shocked that there are that many zero posters.

Title: Re: New Forum: bugs, issues, comments go h
Post by: Tristan Kain on July 12, 2009, 07:00:00 PM
That is an awful lot of lurkers... but if the numbers I'm seeing are accurate, that's over 75% of the member base about to be blasted away.  (my calculator says 81.7%)

I know the 80/20 rule applies to forums just as much as it does retail customers, but that percentage of lurkers seems a bit out.  Is it counting people who don't post regularly by accident?

Title: Re: New Forum: bugs, issues, comments go here
Post by: Sakura77 on July 12, 2009, 07:33:53 PM
If you consider the fact that when the member's list is sorted by total posts, pages 12-53 is full of zero posts and most of page 11 is zero posts as well. It's not actually that surprising. Though I'm shocked that I'm amongst the top ten posters.

Title: Re: New Forum: bugs, issues, comments go h
Post by: Datschge on July 13, 2009, 12:53:12 PM
Well, my assumption is that most of those members are either bots which managed to register but failed to post a message or thread for whatever reason, or bots which are creating sleeping accounts which are exploited as soon as grave security leaks in the forum are found. Since the new user group visibly limits access I hope any valid lurker makes his/her voice heard here (HELLO). I'll probably also add a rule that lurkers are very welcome, but have to post two messages first to be trusted or something. =P

Title: Re: New Forum: bugs, issues, comments go h
Post by: Flunky on July 17, 2009, 12:31:32 AM
Hi, I'm one of the lurkers.

Actually, I made a couple of posts a long time ago on one of the earlier forum-ish formats. I guess my account persisted (but didn't count those old, old posts) or I re-registered without posting since. It may be that there are others who last made a post before this forum format.

On the other hand, the need to flush out potential bots is certainly a worthy one.

Title: Re: New Forum: bugs, issues, comments go here
Post by: Nezumi on August 22, 2010, 10:45:26 AM
I'm a lurker with a  problem that I can't make a new topic for:

I'm trying to run Ys IV under SNES9X 1.52 Mac OS X... and once it's patched, whether with the auto-patcher or manually, the top half of the screen becomes corrupted during the early-game conversation about Lemnos' dog, making reading the final text box of the conversation impossible. I could just go without reading that text box, but I'd rather not, and I don't know if it will crop up again. Tried using multiple different roms, and redownloaded my ROM, but it doesn't fix things.

Title: Re: New Forum: bugs, issues, comments go here

Could go to manual activation of new accounts. But that'd be a pain in the ass, and the LEGITIMATE new accounts would get lost in a sea of failed spammers.

Title: Re: New Forum: bugs, issues, comments go here

What about implementing a Captcha for forum comments? I forget if there's already one for registering but putting one there if there isn't could help too.

I'll likely replace the existing captcha with a human question. Haven't seen any addon which implements that for each post though and am not too eager to make more modifications by hand.

Unfortunately, we *still* had spambots posting on the forum, so I just purged all accounts with zero posts. There were approximately 4300 of them. I apologize to anyone who got caught in the blast and, due the current issue with the captcha/plugin, cannot re-register, but it had to be done :/

Given several of them registered multiple times without ever successfully activating an account or posting, and some continued to visit for a long time after they were banned? Likely not.

I have a virtualbox on my mac running Windows XP. I have downloaded La-Mulana and I installed it on the virtual Windows, extracted the files, and ran the game. The screen flashes small white boxes on a black screen, and none of the game actually shows up. The game then kicks me back to the desktop. I really, really want to play this game! Someone help!
