Title: BootFighter Windom XP SP-2
Post by: Sume Gai on March 30, 2008, 01:44:07 AM
I'd like to point your attention to a little gem of a freeware game called Bootfighter Windom

this game is damn fun; It's very similar to a Virtual-On or Gundam VS game, a translation patch was just released by Mirror Moon(notable for translating Visual novels) it even has online.

check it out for yourself (http://mirrormoon.org/projects/windom)

I was gonna say they needed to quit getting distracted and focus on Fate's third route, but... this looks good too.

I'm gonna have to remember this, next time I've got the house to myself.

Sume, I put up a section for Boot Fighter over at The Worm Hole. Xanathis and I weren't done with the main site, but we went ahead and made the forum public so we could get it out there before the initial interest of the game wore off. The fourms are located here (http://www.anotherwormhole.com/phpBB2/index.php).
Because of the terrible netcode the game has at the moment, our main goal is to provide a server directory to find the nearest place to play.

The reason why I don't add voices to my pilot sets is because I find them annoying. You get tired of hearing "LISTEN TO MY SONG!!!" getting spammed constantly. And just wait until people add annoying music to the voice files.

Okay, now, I seem to have a problem.

Has anyone else downloaded the installer, only to have the thing tell you it's missing a file and you need to redo it? I've tried setting this thing up like, three or four times now, and it keeps doing the same thing to me. Any help, gang?

I'm doing that right now.
Nice how Microsoft seems to have forgotten what a version number is.
You'd think it'd be easier and less confusing to have DirectX 9.1 instead of a dozen versions of DirectX 9.0c.

Hey guys, fair warning. Apparently, somewhere in in the last week, my stepdad's computer got a nasty little virus of apparent Japanese origin, if the name and processes are any indication.

Oriieke, he said the name was. Basically, what it does is hijack and log all the passwords used on that computer and send them off to parts unknown. Every password that you might use online, like checking your e-mail or bank account, gets ganked. Not a pleasant thought.

Anyway, I'm going ahead and warning you guys cause of the time window of about a week that it's potentially been on the comp. Time coincides with the attempts at downloading Windom that I was making, Just do yourselves a favor and run a check. I don't think they'd be spreading a virus intentionally, and it might not even be from the program. But better safe than sorry, right?

Title: Re: BootFighter Windom XP SP-2
Post by: Sume Gai on April 06, 2008, 09:27:15 PM
I've had a nasty piece of Spyware lately but it came before Windom and from an American company

Title: Re: BootFighter Windom XP SP-2
Post by: Derek on April 06, 2008, 09:36:22 PM
Well, if any of you guys can confirm that Windom isn't the carrier, please do. My stepdad's freaking enough about this whole thing that he's banned everyone but himself from the main computer, and I don't feel like risking the secondary one to this exact same fiasco.

I don't need the full SDK, though. Not unless I get off my ass and start coding again, which seems unlikely.

I already downloaded and installed the end-user redistributable.

Well, glad to know there's at least some documentation of it. The question now is if it's set itself up somewhere with Windom.
Checking now. I'll update once the scan finishes.

Edit:
I can now confirm that my BootFighter install, downloaded via MirrorMoon, is clean.

I dunno about it having a virus, but it does kick ass.

If my internet was faster I'd go online and get my ass kicked by you guys, playing as either the machinegun guy (not the green one) or the artillery real robot.

The names are too ghetto to remember...

Wow. So I just started playing this. It's awesome. Makes me want to make pilots.

Anybody know where I can pick up some voice rips?

Title: Re: BootFighter Windom XP SP-2
Post by: Sume Gai on April 09, 2008, 05:37:44 PM
me and a friend made a Guy Shishio that's pretty good we just need to find a way to distribute it

in making your own the right tools are everything

I know you need
some kind of photo editing software
Audacity (or similar audio tool)
clips (video or sound will do)

the pilotdata.txt file in the main directory explains most of it

the rest is figuring out the individual programs

Title: Re: BootFighter Windom XP SP-2
Post by: Derek on April 09, 2008, 05:48:44 PM
Something like Rapidshare or Megaupload or some other sort of sharing site would be good for distribution. I'm not sure if you need to have a membership to upload, though.

Tell Dooku that his Saber and Archer worked really well, if he wanted to hand those out as well.

And I'm still waiting for my ATX team.

Far as voice packs go, I'm warped enough that making a Pixy Misa pack sounds like a good idea.

*digs Magical Project S DVDs out and starts making samples*

I keep missing everyone else.
Maybe next time.

Things I've noticed in single-player: Blackcomb has a REALLY annoying random chance to reflect beams back at the source. WHY?

And yeah, that's pretty disturbing, Jay. Washu or Ginji would be fine, but Misa's just out there. *Is best friends with a guy who has the whole set and rewatches it pretty regularly*

*As of 2:38 Central*

.......

JayBee, you suck.

Just open up practice mode and start firing a beam rifle at it's chest. Seems to happen most often when you're in front of it.(Though not always. I had it reflect half of a funnel attack while I was playing around).

I was using.... 2k SP1, I think, when I noticed it.  Kind of annoying to hit it with a beam burst and see part of it come back at you.

Also: Gai, you need to update the link to the Mirror Moon site.

I think the link should be

not this (http://mirrormoon.org/bootfighter_windom_xp_sp_2)

Much as I'd love to join, I think both you and JayBee remember what happened last time I played...

Also, be thankful this computer doesn't run it right.

Blast. My laptop can run duels and practice, but the team matches (which look insanely fun) are not playable.
