Alright, another SRW game I don't get to play.
Seriously though, its good they're at least releasing one more for the PS2.  It's a pretty nice list.  They finally have Turn A and X on a console game since Alpha Gaiden, and they're adding King Gainer on top of it.
I suppose it's way too early to ask about the details like the system or for screenshots.

X, Big O, Gainer, Zambot?

not bad, not bad.

Needs more Macross.

With Orguss in there, we could finally see someone do the Orguss Valkyrie (http://www.new-un-spacy.com/sdfmacross/vf-orguss-valkyrie.htm) as something other than a brief easter egg in what would become a stock footage scene.

I'm actually rather amused that a game like this is going to the PS2. For a "dead" system, it's getting some pretty good mileage.

Surprised to see xabungle on the list. Though suren that series had some mind-putting to what it to dids.

I'm still holding out for some votom love...after all, they've done everything else Sunrise owns.

here's some scans, taken off the gamefaq board (suren I dig the shiny, hand-drawn feel to it) -

Come to think of it, Mazinkaiser's not on that list.  Maybe they realised that doing it a thirtieth time wouldn't impress anyone?

Those are just series. They could probably still stick in the Banpresto version if they really wanted, though I sorta doubt they will.

If Grendizer is in the game, they probably won't.  At no point in the entire series are the two in any of the same games.

I just hope the game'll have pictures to go with who you're deploying. Suren newer games've been good about that, probably to aid us wacky gaijin scum....

as a question, SRW is still being done by the same dev team, just under Bandai-Namco right?
Bamco didn't dump the intelligant story devision from Banpresto did they?

i wonder because the Banpre4sto team could WORK Eureka 7 into a world with out it being made the main setting easily, and well I like there stories

In ACE3, corrallians were cast as another type of Getter Armageddon Invader. So yeah, it's pretty simple to work E7 into a plot :p

That said, I call them Bandamco (tm). And nothing else really matters....

Update! Word on the GameFAQs board is that the full PV will be revealed after the release of Advance Portable. There's new screenshots too! The post in question is located on page 5 of the sticky topic.

In anticipation of AP (which I can't actually play), I've started playing Advance again and watched the MS Gundam movie trio. And looking forward to this, I've been watching Overman King Gainer! *does the monkey* I should probably start on Eureka Seven and Big O as well.

Insert Credit had a blurb about that.

They also noted that the franchise is popular enough that SRWAPortable knocked Metal Gear Solid 4 off the top of the sales charts, despite being a PSPort.

Some mechs are just better than others, I guess.

It seems as though they also covered (albeit a little late) AGTP's Live-a-Live 2.0 patch.

So, thoughts? I'm really digging some of the little things. Like how when Overman Rush Rod is frozen by those missiles, it doesn't hit some nonexistent "ground in the sky" like what usually happens in SRW. And also that big combined enemy that gets Tomahawk'd by Getter Dragon actually blows up piece by piece instead of just suffering some generic explosion. Impulse skewering Freedom is also worthy of mention, I guess.

One question I have about Z is the originals.  Since it's starting a new continuity supposedly, will the original characters start out with gespensts or grungusts?  Will there be a Real or Super Robot route or will it just go through the game like Alpha Gaiden?
Thoughts?

Title: Re: Super Robot Taisen Z
Post by: Ianator on July 02, 2008, 11:05:36 PM
The originals are completely new, and you will be able to choose between a Super (male pilot w/ female copilot) and Real (female pilot w/ two or three assistants). There's not much more, but you can check up on GameFAQs if you want.

NEW STUFF!

Aquarion will definitely have its pilot-changing system, but due to the immense amount of combinations that would entail, they're sticking with five simple rosters, each of which has Apollo at the lead:
Apollo, Sirius, Sylvia
Apollo, Pierre, Sylvia
Apollo, Sirius, Reika
Apollo, Pierre, Reika
Apollo, Jun, Tsugumi

Its Element System will activate at 130 Morale, and will take its pilot stats from the highest ones available (meaning if Sylvia has the highest Shooting stat, it'll help even if she's not the head pilot).

Gravion is interesting... Grankaiser can use the Gasshin! command to form God Gravion at 130 Morale, but it'll only last for three turns! I, for one, see this as an opportunity to make Gravion crazy powerful, but I've heard some moans about this.

Gundam X's Sattelite Cannon apparently needs four turns to charge up (upon which there's a spiffy cut-in), and can only be used on stages where the moon is visible. Once charging is complete, it can be used as either an ALL or MAP attack.

Thanks go once again to GameFAQs user greato_booster for this wonderful information!

ORIGINALS REVEALED!

Images here (http://superrobotwar.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/srwhotnewszog7.jpg) and here (http://superrobotwar.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/srwhotnewszog8.jpg).

The Super, GunLeon, is the orange mech with a wrench (F**K YEAH!). Its main pilot is Rand Travis, a mechanic searching for his missing master. His copilot is Meer Peter, his master's daughter (and also claims to be Rand's fiancee...).

The Real, Balgora, is the blue mech. Its pilot is Setsuko Ohara, a pilot with the military R&D group, Glory Star, though she has doubts as to her capability as a soldier. Her support comes from the veteran, Denzel Hammer, and the ace pilot, Toby Watson.

The black rival mech, Shroga, is piloted by the vampiric-looking Asekim, while the Angelg-with-goat-horns, Elifas, is piloted by the gives-Garnet-a-run-for-her-money succubus, Sine.

COME ON, PEOPLE! THIS IS BIG!

The super's copilot has what can only be described as a Practical Combat Outfit.

( PCO is a term I coined after watching Godannar to describe pilot suits that leave most of the body completely exposed and unprotected. Now help it spread! )

I've gone through ... Dancougar Nova...
I'm... so sorry.

I watched that one a while back out of morbid curiosity, and still can't get the unclean feeling out.
I managed to find a torrent with the original Dancouga series+OVAs. That helped a bit, though I skipped through all the non-action parts of Blazing Epilogue because it's untranslated.

Should probably get a video editor and upload a not-VHS rip of that.

I actually enjoyed it a fair bit - found it quite refreshing, considering I'd finished Gravion Zwei just hours before. It'd be nice if Z2 (or even Z3, God willing) gives us a FINAL-MAXGOD DanKuuCougaKen combo.

Anyways, seems Famitsu gave Z a 9/9/9/9 - the highest-rated SRW game ever!

Nova isn't that bad.

Cheezy and forgettable; yes. Bad; not really.

if you watch Gravion for anymore that the music and cross-dressing though...

Title: Re: Super Robot Taisen Z
Post by: JayBee on September 18, 2008, 01:06:12 AM
Well, you can tell what you're getting into just by the box on Gravion. I mean, aside from the comically misproportioned characters, their primary bullet points are "Boobs! Short skirts!! MAID OUTFITS!!!"
...
Of course, the packaging and character designs kept me away from Godannar for quite a while. And it was AWESOME. So you can't ALWAYS judge a book by it's cover. But it sounds like Gravion's cover is a fair representation.

Anyways!
If they ever introduce Nova to SRW, I demand the original Juusenkeitai lay into them, just on principle.
A hobo, a race car driver, a cop, and a office worker VS four trained military officers? No. Contest.

And then they can reform their rock band and take on Fire Bomber! YEAH!
...
Did EVERY 80s anime have a music video release attached to it? I swear every time I turn around I'm seeing another one pop up.
