Title: Stuff I've Been Busy With Lately
Post by: Gideon Zhi on September 13, 2007, 01:11:27 PM
Posting this here 'cuz I'm bored at work and don't have access to my home computer. Files are linked to from my temp directory (as opposed to news images which are stored separately) so don't be surprised if they disappear at some point in the indeterminate future.

SRW EX
(http://agtp.romhack.net/temp/srwex000.png) (http://agtp.romhack.net/temp/srwex001.png)

Dialogue works, needs a looooot of editing. Did training and the first chapter of Masaki's story; waiting on Excellen for a nondialogue translation.

Magical Drop 2
(http://agtp.romhack.net/temp/md2e001.png)
Main dialogue's in. Endings and tutorials still need dumping... not to mention a lot of graphic replacement needs doing as well.

Metal Max Returns

...so continues the playtest...

Am I the only one who had wet dreams about the Magical Drop 2 translation? Ladies in latex are my weakness.

Hey, atleast he hasn't pulled his head off to reveal that he is infact... BUM BUM BUM! Carrot Top!

Anyway, Yay to progress ^-^ (Though Masaki has no right to talk about breaking the fourth wall when he;s been guilty of it himself on more than... Five... Ocassions... (Ahh, Advertising at it's finest...)

He busts other people for doing it 'cause they're stealing his schtick, that's all.

...I'm really curious as to how much bird crap would sell for now.

It doesn't. It takes up space in your inventory and adds a little extra weight to your tank, and can't be removed unless you take your tank to a car wash, at which point it's automatically discarded.

well, that's hardly realistic. Sure you can't just find some crazy guy to sell it to?

And what's this "car wash" nonsense? Can't you wait for it to rain, like god intended?

Point. In the middle of a desert, there will be the temptation to run your tank through a car wash...assuming it fits, in which case it's a pretty girly tank.

Still, I stand by my "wait for it to rain, as god intended."

Yay, Masoukishin!

The text looks better than the original Japanese. >_>;

And the SRW fandom all over the world explodes with joy! I know I did.
The new font looks great and twice as much on-screen dialogue space is definitely "Huzzah!"

I presume Masoukishin is as much of a custom font whore as Dark Law was?

I'm going, just this once, to take the gentlemanly route and assume the pronounciation is "Tie-tee".

Title: Re: Stuff I've Been Busy With Lately

It's actually kind of pronounced "tyooty" believe it or not.

The pronounciation is still a bit off.. She is supposedly from Finland according to some faqs and as I'm from there myself, I can confirm that Tytti is an girls name, although an old one which is hardly ever given to an child anymore.
I've seen her name translated in many different ways. Like: Tootie and Tutti (which brought a small laugh when I saw it first, as it means a baby's pacifier).

This web page should help those who are interested in the correct pronounciation of Tytti:

So I guess that'd make it like a Tü-tee (with an aspirated t) then. Funky name ;O

Gideon Zhi, regarding the speaker portraits garbling, I think that is an emulator issue.
I get the same problem when playing Super Robot Wars 4 on the ZNES emulator.  It works almost perfectly on the SNES9x.

If you can fix that problem for ZNES, more power to you.

Title: Re: Stuff I've Been Busy With Lately
Post by: Gideon Zhi on October 04, 2007, 11:44:36 AM
I'm pretty sure it's not. For one, it doesn't do it in the Japanese version. For another, it's *only* when an enemy dies and their portrait goes to static.

Title: Re: Stuff I've Been Busy With Lately
Post by: Derek on October 04, 2007, 12:26:42 PM
Well, if there's no major harm in it, it could be a fairly neat effect. You killed the guy, now watch his screen cut out on him as his robot explodes.

....Yeah, I'm just talking. Don't mind me.

Title: Re: Stuff I've Been Busy With Lately
Post by: Gideon Zhi on October 04, 2007, 12:48:30 PM
It does that *anyway.* The issue is that the portrait not only goes to static, but also explodes out of its boundary and into the text window, leaving some black boxes in the portrait window itself.

Title: Re: Stuff I've Been Busy With Lately
Post by: Sume Gai on October 04, 2007, 02:28:19 PM
sounds like some kinda layering error like the text box is below the portrait rather than above it (w/ a window for the speaker's face)

don't listen to me though I know next to nothing about snes roms

He, I had to register here after seeing there's a Finnish character the game...

In Wikipedia she's listed as 'Tootie Noorbuck'... Urgh... Tytti Norrbäck would work though. It also says she has a (male) villain called 'Lubicca Hakinnen'. Häkkinen, like the F1 driver is the real spelling of his surname of course, but his first name seems like 100% made up, or either transferred in even more bizarre way from Finnish->Japanese->English than the other names.

Which sort of proves my theory that the majority of Wiki-editors are immature children who can't admit when they're wrong, or corrupt businesses that don't want people to know whats wrong with their product *Glances at Exon and Pepsi*

Given the sheer size it's grown to, most of the strength Wikipedia has is drawn from the reliability of the information that is provided. If someone doesn't take the time to back up an edit (especially one that, at first glance, can appear to be vandalism or an unsupported difference in opinion), it's not surprising their edit is reverted.

(Wikipedia is still pretty rotten, but too many treat it like it's completely useless and nonsensical in it's workings)

That said, stuff like the proper translations/romanizations of SRW names is some meaningles, meaningless shit.

I miss the days when wikipedia was a lot more sketchy and the information was dubious at best. it seemed a lot more interesting than the "just the facts, ma'am" approach it seems to ahve taken. I'm a little bit disgusted  by all the "THIS ARTICLE NEEDS CLEANING UP LOLOLOL" templates you see on just about every sinle page, andthe discouraging of trivia sections....can you say "facism?"

Trivia sections? Where does a trivia fit in an encyclopedia? o_O

There are quiz sites for that kind of thing, and Wikipedia is certainly not one of them. :P

Information is information, inerestin information is interestin infomation.

Since when did Iron maiden belong in an encyclopedia? or information regarding scatological sexual fetisisms?

A trivia is a game. It provides/tests information, but it's still a game.

Trivial pursuit is a game. Trivia is trivial information.

LOL yeah so many article needs cleaning up pages. A cruel trick would be to register for the site, only to revert pages back to an older version whenever the trivia section is removed. Then to launch a passionate argument of why the trivia added greatly to the original entry.
