Title: A Personal Fan Project...
Post by: ChrisABlair on July 10, 2008, 09:31:35 AM
Hey guys, it's me. Just thought I'd post up here that I was making a fan SRW, entitled E (for Eternity, in the honor of the GBA titles. It's also a joke on my actual first name, which is Ethan. ) It will use custom made sprites modified from those of SRW J and will probably run on its own engine. I came up with it one night, and I thought it would probably be cool.  It also boasts one of the biggest rosters for SRW, with a total of 60+ different series.
Series Included-

-RPT004 Landsneckt
-GR-002 Deicider
Banpresto Originals
-Original Generation
-Original Generation Gaiden
-A/AP

-Compact 3
-Masoukishin/Lord of Elemental
-W
Bakuretsu Muteki Bangai-O
Brain Powerd
Code Geass (Both Seasons)
Detonator Orgun

-Zero
-DYRL
-Plus
-Macross 7
-Frontier
Nadesico (Prince of Darkness too)
Gundam
-Original (0079)
-08th MS Team
-0080
-0083

-F91
-Crossbone Gundam
-Crossbone Gundam Skull Heart
-V Gundam

Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagann
Escaflowne
The Big O (Both Seasons)
Zone of the Enders
Expansion Set:
-G Gundam
-Bootfighter Windom XP SP-2
-Xenosaga/Xenogears
-Gunbuster/Diebuster (Long overdue; finally saw both series)
-Parallel Trouble Adventure DUAL!
-Geneshaft
-Gravion + Zwei

That's the list.
If anyone wants to make me a cool title pic, feel free.
Here's to me getting sued! ^^;

What, no Xenogears/Xenosaga?

I should, shouldn't I? I wouldn't mind seeing Weltall on my list.

Post by: Ianator on July 10, 2008, 12:27:08 PM
Oh my. That's quite a list. Needs more Gravion, though... And I think you may have put F91 on there twice. Are there really two things for it?

I'd go over some of my ideas for a SRW game, but that's for another time. So you're programming this one yourself?

Don't get me wrong here but I think this would be a lot better with LESS series

this list is HUGE. I don't see how you could give all the characters their required "screen time" or make a coherent and manageable story.

but that said: Where is Gunbuster/Diebuster?

Title: Re: A Personal Fan Project...
Post by: ChrisABlair on July 10, 2008, 01:03:48 PM
I've only put down series I've read/played/watched. And everybody will get thier alloted time, considering this is gonna be a HUGE game. It's no Banpresto game that caps at Stage 60... sorry, bad joke.To clarify, this game is gonna cover several generations. As for placing F91 twice, there's actually a manga that comes after F91 called Silhouette Formula F91... or was it a model set?

Title: Re: A Personal Fan Project...
Post by: Ianator on July 10, 2008, 05:21:10 PM
Yeah, now I remember. The Silhouette series is like the Formula series' competitors-slash-brothers by stolen trade secrets.

I've wanted to make a Super Robot Wars game in three acts, using series that actually come in like three parts (for example, Nadesico->Blank of Three Years->Prince of Darkness). And the original units would be designed using some sort of LEGO-based CAD.

Seriously, I've got a little LEGO robot next to my computer that looks suspiciously like a Laz Angriff Raven.

Awesome. Would you mind if I asked, since you said custom engine, what programming language is it going to be written in?

Just be careful not to burn yourself out! That's one hell of an ambitious list!

Lego SRW, I wonder why that idea hasn't caught on.

1: Less Gundam SEED. The series was dull as hell and a ripoff of the original.
While we're at it, no Gundam 00. It's naught but a timely cash-in on the topics of rescource crises, holy war, and terror tactics known to be used by Islamic extremist groups. For that matter, it was more boring than SEED.

2: Throw in Gekigangar 3 from Nadesico. Ep 14 of Nadesico showed how each existed as an anime in the other's universe, and would make for some funny-as-hell lines from Akito Tenkawa, Gai Daigouji and possibly Junpei and the professor.

3: I'd love to see what you can do with Gurren Lagann, but don't you think a super robot that's the size of a galaxy would be pushing it? Why would any of the others even matter?

4: Big O? Kickass

5: I see no Ideon. Include it. The Legendary Giant God's power will rip apart the galaxy.

6: This one's tricky. I came up with the idea of characters on the ground actually mattering. If you dictate that every square on the robot scale is a 5x5 grid on a human scale, you can have characters attempting to run in between robot's legs (which, in my idea, take up the middle three spaces on the columns immediately to the left and right of the center), being shielded from attack, and actually having their being away from the ship during an attack matter in more ways than merely survivng X turns without them. Seriously, this could turn the whole thing on its ear.

1.I actually enjoyed ASTRAY far more than I enjoyed the actual series itself. And I'm putting in Gundam 00 because Banpresto will eventually cave and put it in a SRW, so what does it matter?

2. That's actually a great idea. Thanks!

3. One episode matter? lol.

4. I know.

5. I've never personally seen Ideon, the anime or it's inclusion in Alpha 3. I own Alpha 3, I just haven't.... played it. As I said earlier, I'm including all of the series I've seen/played/read.

6.I'll consider this. Thanks for your ideas.

1. first off wow you know so little about Gundam 00 its kinda sad I myself like SEED, I dislike SEED Destiny, I enjoyed the Astray manga and I know nothing about X Astray so I'm not the best person to comment

2. Gekigangar 3 would be funny as hell but he would have to make up Gekigangar 3's plot from scratch you know

3. true

4. its not the first time

5. no comment

6.  that's something I myself thought of a few times but it alway came down to one thing too much work lol besides it make using some mechs a little overly complicated not to mencin the size the grid would have to be huge with large scale mechs

1: Okay, you got me there, but that was my take after 4 episodes. It was so boring I just couldn't watch any more.

2: Actually, if you watch the Gekigangar OAV, a lot of storyline is fleshed out (although it still needs a larger script, the events are there).

6. Actually, the trick is that the mecha all move on a normal-sized grid. The subgrid only applies on a human scale. In addition to allowing for missions in which you have to protect people, it also allows for suit robot shows (like Bubblegum Crisis) to join the fray. Of course, Tekkaman Blade counted as one, but I don't think anyone noticed.

Two series you should include if only for the lulz:

Megas XLR (Heck yeah, American mecha parody! ...Seriously, it'd work! Just think about it!)
G Gundam (Why isn't this on the list? Unless it is, and I missed it.)

And one serious suggestion:

Gun x Sword (Watch. This. Anime. It manages to be awesome between fits of cliche and hilarity.)

Also, Metal Gear Solid. SNAKE ON FOOT FIGHTING ANGELS YEAH *shot*

Title: Re: A Personal Fan Project...
Post by: Ianator on July 13, 2008, 10:51:16 PM
Well, it was like a 30,000 point game on two tables with bridges between them. I was too late to play and my mom wanted to head out on the quickfast to buy one o' them newfangled iPhone 3Gs.

On the plus side, she got me paint and some Ork stuff (the Codex and a Trukk) on the condition we left right then. I still got to see like three Land Raider Terminus Ultra, a squadron of Baneblades and an Ork Stompa made from a Necron Monolith - it deploys troops from the back end! I hope I can make it to one of next month's big battles.

Also, one of us should totally make a Warhammer thread.

Well, I've always loved making stuff. When I was younger I tried to take the basic rules of Yu-Gi-Oh! and convert them into - of all things - Star Trek. And there's rarely been a time where I don't have easy access to LEGO bricks.

There's really not much to it just yet. I've statted the rules for the Aestivalis units from Nadesico, as well as a bunch of the heroes from GaoGaiGar. Each unit has all the stats you'd expect - HP, EN, Mobility, Armor, Move, Size and Terrain. Attacks have Power, Cost (EN or Ammo plus required Morale), Range, Type (Energy or Solid, Blade or Impact, and whether it can hit a flying unit from the ground), and special effects (if applicable).

For instance...
snipped - this isn't my show

...Also, sorry for totally hijacking your thread.

OMG guys, update on SRW E! I've found a partner in the form of one Sasori, who has had the same ambition of mine: a purely fan-based SRW title. The mecha list has increased, and now includes the uberpowerful Gunbuster. I've also listed the real robot, the Landsneckt, and the super robot, the Deicider. Those are the names I've come up with; they're also subject to change. And now, at this point in time, I offer you folks here at AGTP a chance to help with the project.

Here it is:

Design an original mecha & pilot. Doesn't need a picture (but it would help, no matter how crappy your art talent is). Include a storyline and your mech & pilot(s) may be included in SRW E!!! It can be anything, suit mecha, giant transforming vehicles, etc.

Oh, and if someone could make an incredible title image, that'd be cool.

I was just wondering how your progress was going - was reminded by a topic on the GameFAQs SRWZ board asking about the damage and accuracy maths and thinking that might've been you.

Actually, I've had an idea in my head for about a week. I'll see what I can come up with. It was inspired by Nerf guns.

Also, I was wondering what you were planning on for music, because it would be spine-tingly awesome if the final battle between the Gundam and Zeong went off to Meguriai (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Lxf1zw7MCc) like in G-Gen Cross Drive.

Oh, and STONING against Zombie Schwartzwald Big Duo.

Interesting...how'd I miss this?

Well, I've got a few questions. I'll make 'em numerical, as per tradition of skeptical posts.

1. Where are you getting your base sprites from? Are you ripping them yourself? In which case, mind if  I use them?

2. Care to show one of your "custom" sprites? I like to see ambition, but I hope you're prepared to draw your arse off. You should at least show something before asking others to.

3. Do you know what you plan to run this game on?

4. How the hell did you plan to include everything but votoms & getter robo? Weak. Truly.

1. Our base sprites are coming from J and W, and my partner in crime Sasori is doing most of the ripping.

2.I would, but that would ruin the surprise, wouldn't it?

3. Once again, BIG surprise.

4. Did you not read my other posts? ONLY SHOWS OR MANGA I HAVE SEEN/READ are included. I haven't seen either, so they're not included. Plus, I just don't like Getter. Could be because I've never seen the damn thing, besides various SRW games, or my inherent hate for Super Robots (Okay, maybe that's a little strong a word, maybe dislike?)

I read your posts, but there's no justifiable cause for you to have seen neither votoms or any incarnation of getter. That's just terrible.

That said, hope you took no offense.

That said, you're a schmuck for asking designs without showing one. :p

I think I saw shin getter (not armageddon, the new-ish one) on demonoid. Armageddon's easy enough to come by (*cough* animeA *cough*), but it won't make a lick of sense if you don't know anything about the show (though SRW is probably enough to give you the basics).

Votoms is a bit harder to come by (except the new OVA), but I saw something on isohunt (pretty large, but well worth it).

A couple episodes of the original getter and third (I think) major arc of votoms are up on youtube, if you want a taste of either.

edit - actually, the bits of votoms on youtube are from two of the original ovas. It's been a while.

Yes Jolly. I actually ripped sprites from : J and W. I have gotten creative with what I have and made a sizeable amount of sprites( That means I have made some Mecha from Scratch or edited them so drasticlly that they look like mecha from other series.). Currently progress is going very well. Although I am Cleaning up the Celestial Being Gundams (messy messy :P).

Otherwise I got lazy with Endless Waltz and SOME of the MSVs but they look good.

about Concepts (such as things within the game itself) many are going to find pretty interesting.

Until then :)!

Guess I'll take your word at all that.

That said, I ask again, would you mind sharing your rips? Or what you used to capture them? I tinker with sprites, might find it interesting to mess around in the realm of dwarfed robots...

Votoms was on Comcast's OnDemand service not too long ago, but if you want to see the series you'll probably have to go to one of those less-than-legal sources. I'm told that there are torrents out there somewhere.

You'll want to see the 52 ep series before anything else, even though some of the OVAs are actually prequels. It starts out slow, but by episode 3 you're really drawn into the world and it just gets deeper and more nuanced as time goes on, as you start to learn about the characters and setting. It's a mecha anime that also happens to have a really terrific amount of character development.

I'm not sure how you'd put it into SRW, though. The mecha themselves are really different, more like upscaled rideable body armor rather than something like a mobile suit, and the main character, Chirico, doesn't get a custom robot for the first 48 episodes. The rest of the time, he's piloting whatever he can scrounge together, and sometimes piloting LESS effective things than the enemy grunts he's facing. No Gundarium armor here!

If a 52-ep series is too much of a time investment, look up Armor Hunter Mellowlink, which is fansubbed and never licensed for America, so it's available on animesuki.com. It's 12 episodes of a badass out for revenge against the leaders who betrayed his old military unit, and he takes them out while they're in their giant robots, and he's on foot. Badass doesn't begin to describe it.

Oh! And you're probably inundated with people going ADD MY FAVORITE ANIME, but Metal Wolf Chaos deserves a mention, because it has the President of the United States of America fighting to take back America, city by city, in a giant robot.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Genl242_ZU8

The US President is (apparently) a Super Robot hero in a Real Robot world. Believe your own Justice!!

This Would be hilarious if it had some connection to the whole Marimeian Army and the President coming and kicking the hell out of them :P.

Also I could provide rips from the game to answer your question Jolly Old Saint.

PS: I need Support getting some RahXephon Sprites! If anyone has any feel free to give them to us!

Bumping an aging post... FOR GREAT JUSTICE!!!! and a few other items...

ChrisABlair, do you have a website set up for this? I saw no link anywhere in the thread. (If you need one built, I could set up a basic one for you; all you'd need to do is set up the webspace)

I queried in July (was it that long ago? Page 1) about how you'd handle the inclusion of galaxy sized Gurren Lagann, and about a week ago I finally figured out a way. Should I just email you my idea or something, or do you have your own plans?

Lastly, I'm a pretty good character artist. Are you still accepting original character art and ideas? (a question tangentially tied in to a centralized website, which might make submissions easier)

Wow Everyone its been a long time sense we updated this project!

Well We (ChrisAblair and I)  have created over a minimum of 20 Sprites. We have also vowed not to stop creating Super Robot Wars Eternity due to Super Robot Wars K coming out. We have started a Second SRW Project: Super Robot Wars Genesis. Which will be the main focus once SRW E is complete.

Hello, everyone. Just posting a little note here.

I'm one of the newer members of the SRW E team. Just thought I'd post here and help introduce myself to any fans of the project.

I'd also like to notify people that we're looking for members. Animators, sprite makers, and programmers can post here or contact us on our site which I will place at the end of this post.

Keep in mind, this is a major project and we're trying to take this as seriously as possible. So if you're the lazy or not so serious type, please save us all the effort. I would like to note, however, that the project is going well and we're reaching that point where we can make the game less of a "dream" or "project" and more into "reality."

So to keep it simple, we need people! Please make sure to post here or contact us on the site to join our project. Thank you all.
