Title: Shin Megami Tensei if
Post by: PrincessSnoopy on February 12, 2009, 05:01:49 PM
I was looking around and saw this game. I didn't know that this game was made. Has anyone done a translation on it? I  did notice one file had h1C next to it and the other p1. Can someone tell me what those mean? Thanks

I've heard of a couple of translation projects but nothing with results.

If you want something resembling an unfolding translation rather than a script to reference, satsu did a Let's Play of it available here:

h1C means it has a header. The C may mean it's corrupt.
I don't know what the p1 means.

Thought h meant hack.

Assuming these are the "Good" codes.

Oops, you're right. I guessed header based on trying to make FF5spoof work (wouldn't work on my readme compliant copy, so I tried to find one with a header)

[a?] Alternate
[p?] Pirate (thought this was a given)
[b?] Bad Dump
[t?] Trained
[f?] Fixed
[T-] OldTranslation
[o?] Overdump
[T+] NewerTranslation
[h?] Hack
(-) Unknown Year
[!p] Pending Dump (thought this was impossible)
[!] Verified Good Dump
(M#) Multilanguage (# of Languages)
(###) Checksum
(??k) ROM Size
(Unl) Unlicensed

Okay, so the one having h1C is a hack in (referencing country codes) Chinese.
The one with p1 is pirated, but that really is a given in any case.

Google "goodcodes" for the full list.

GoodSNES ignores headers.

I believe the "pirate" versions refer to hacks made by pirates.
Common on the NES, where pirates didn't have access to the mappers used by the original games.
