Title: Shin Megami Tensei games history
Post by: Xcetron on October 08, 2011, 09:30:34 PM
Hi all, new here to the forums. Gideon I really like the work you are doing and wanted to know your thoughts on this:

SMT games history

Main series:

SMT 1 (SNES) -> Translated by Gideon

SMT 1 (PS1) -> Eyegasmic version not translated

SMT 2 (SNES) -> Translated by Gideon

SMT 2 (PS1) -> Eyegasmic version not translated

SMT: If... (SNES) -> Being translated by Gideon

SMT: If... (PS1) -> Eyegasmic version not translated

SMT 3 (PS2) -> NA version

SMT: SJ (NDS) -> NA version

SMT 4 (3DS) -> NA version

SMT Devil Summoner series:

Devil Summoner (SAT) -> Not translated
Recommended version:
SMT Devil Summoner (PSP)
The first game in the series, sadly this game is not being translated by Atlus or a translation group.

Soul Hackers (3DS) -> NA version

Raidou Kuzunoha 1 (PS2) -> NA version

Raidou Kuzunoha 2 (PS2) -> NA version

SMT Persona series:

Persona 1 (PS1) -> NA version
Recommended version:
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona (PSP)
A remake for the PSP.

Persona 2: IS (PS1) -> Translated by Gemini
Recommended version:
SMT Persona 2: Innocent Sin (PSP)
A remake for the PSP.

Persona 2: EP (PS1) -> NA version

Persona 3 (PS2) -> NA version
Recommended version:
SMT Persona 3: FES (PS2)
This new version adds new content. The PS2 version uses anime cutscenes while the PSP version uses in-game graphics to give an example.

Persona 4 (PS2) -> NA version
Recommended versions:
SMT Persona 4 (PS2)
Better graphics and audio fidelity.
SMT Persona 4: Golden (PSV)
This new version adds new content. With the PSV they could add content instead of having to remove some of it.

SMT Devil Survivor series:

Devil Survivor 1 (NDS) -> NA version
Recommended version:
SMT Devil Survivor: Overclocked (3DS)
A remake that includes many new features like voice acting.

Devil Survivor 2 (NDS) -> NA version

SMT Digital Devil Saga series:

Digital Devil Saga 1 (PS2) -> NA version

Digital Devil Saga 2 (PS2) -> NA version

Most of the info I got it from here, it's worth a read:

I think this is a good read for SMT fans. I am really grateful for Gideon and Gemini work on the SMT games. Of course thanks go to hardcoregaming for most of the hard to get info. In case some of you didn't know there's a Persona 4 anime going on right now. Check it out the first episode was great.

You're missing the BEST MegaTen game, as well as the first to ever see a North American release.

Why no love for Jack Bros?

This is just a list of SMT games. But there's a lot of other great Megaten games.

That's true, but at the moment Gemini is actively working on Soul Hackers, I know Gideon is working on Majin Tensei.

Although not singleplayer there is a game called Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine, it's a free MMORPG.

You're also missing Personae PEZ, the portables, the PSP ports of 1 & 2 IS, and the fighting game (and I guess Cathrine which is kinda a Persona game or an offshoot thereof).

SMT Persona series:
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona (PSP) -> Remake for PSP, NA version
Persona 2: Innocent Sin (PSP) -> Remake for PSP, NA version

Psst... Persona 3 isn't part of the Shin Megami Tensei main series at all. It's Megami Ibunroku. Same with Devil Survivor.

There's a correct history for you guys :^)

Doesn't matter, Jack Bros is still better.
