OoC: I would have pointed it out if the Aerogators had come and gone

And before anyone mentions it Megilots appeared quite a while before the White Star did)

(That's the trick, though. It's actually because you hadn't made a note that they hadn't invaded yet that we assumed it had, since they and the DC war occur so closely together. Most of us are pretty easily going to assume until noted otherwise that we're following OG timeline at the moment, and in doing so, assume the two events as one, as the game itself went. Conversely, because we know where the line was drawn in OG, we're not going to up and assume that, say, the Inspectors or the Einst have come around, since there's a notable division point in the timeline for that.

We walk all over the timeline wearing cleats as it is, but without a solid foundation to know what we're stepping on, it really does just come down to us making it up and hoping nothing comes along later to complicate or contradict things for us. In this case, having the bugs show up from time to time when we want something easy to kill or when Tyria wants to turn things into a total fustercluck is easy, and requires little explanation. Having the whole Balmar Empire drop on our heads isn't.)

(out-of-out-of-character)

My thoughts?

*Jaybee makes a fist*

Anyone that demands an unconditional surrender without even showing their face better be ready to put their money where their mouth is.
We may kick our planet around between factions like a worn-out soccer ball, but like hell we're handing it over to aliens without lifting so much as a finger!

*Enraged, he looks out the window*
My god... Is that their ship? It's huge. More like a moon than a space station.

*grabs a comm, puts out a call to Macross City*
You guys seeing this? Code Omega goes into effect now.
...
What do you MEAN you're holding off?!?!
...
I KNOW the colonies will be stranded if we delete the nav charts! Completely cut off from Earth! THAT'S THE GOD-DAMN POINT!
We didn't put them out there because it was FUN! We went out there to create insurance against an incident like this! It COMPLETELY UNDERMINES THE ENTIRE PROGRAM if we leave a map to every human outpost in the galaxy lying around for every threat to the species that wanders by.
...
NO THREAT TO HUMANITY? ARE WE LOOKING AT THE SAME SHIP?
...
Yes, sir. I am AWARE you officially outrank me. I WILL take that tone with you, as long as you deny reality. Are YOU aware that you're never more than ten minutes away from a Phantom operative?
One way or another, those charts WILL be deleted. It would be nice if it was according to protocol.
Good day!

*slams the disconnect button*

God-damn bureaucrats.
We can rebuild the map after we win, but we can't afford them to get the location of the colony worlds.

So... anyone wanna turn that giant egg out there into an omelet?

Yes!! Lots of Megirots!! If only I manage to get about 20 of them and also some La Gias tech I should table to make-... (evil glares of death from the crew)
Oh sorry guys, just insane babbling...don't mind it...

*Crew goes for weapons*

Wait!

*Nearby crew fires warning shoots that get really close to hit*

All right...suppose the Plan B of seducing Rebi Tora to learn about Earogater tech is up...

*runs off to lock up in quarters as shooting starts*

Does Giga-chan remind you of anything Tyria? Last time you messed with Megirots Commander Gai nearly got killed.

Well...actually I was thiking of getting one to swing around on the enemies...it would be fun!

 (MEGI-CHAAAN HAMMEEEEEER!)

Besides, even if I try to work on a Earogater-based project, it will have to wait after we deal with Rebi. As for the Megi-chan...well, let's just say I learned my leasson...as before, I had no idea what would happen if I tried to increase the Ze-Field crystals, nothing on my research indicated it would run out of control, the thing didn't come with a instruction manual. I didn't see anyone pointing fingers on the Vanishing Trooper incident, like it, that's proof that sometimes shit happens. At least now I know what NOT DO!

And it was totally succesfull on the part of adaptating a Megirot for human use.

Tyria, I'm gonna make this one absolutely 100% crystal clear.

If I catch you even so much as LOOKING at one of those things without a weapon either being aimed at or completely destroying those things, I really will not hesitate to fire. Officially, I will be aiming for the bug. But I'll be damned if I can't try for a twofer. We have ENOUGH problems without adding in whatever psychotic demons straight out of a Lovecraft story you feel like building.

Now, onto other matters. Such as that giant HOLY SHIT out there. I can see why this Levi chick is cocky enough to demand an immediate surrender. With that...I dunno, what, "White Star"? With something like that, it does sorta feel like she just jumped her queen out on the first move, putting us straight into check. If I had something like that at my command, I'd rely on intimidation, too.

Too bad for her, we don't scare easy. Right guys?

Derek, I'm going to put this 100% crystal clear too.

I don't give a damn to what you want. But fire on me and I'll go straight for your cockpit.

Derek, I'm going to put this 100% crystal clear too.

I don't give a damn to what you want. But fire on me and I'll go straight for your cockpit.

Stronger men have tried, my friend. Only one of them ever succeeded.

And he died shortly thereafter.

The point still stands, either way. Those that forget the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them, and I don't feel like repeating that one.

Know what, forget about me even being in the equation for a minute and think about it. The commander didn't hesitate to blow himself up to stop that thing the first time, and it's probably no small miracle that he's alive to tell about it. Do you think for a second that he wouldn't do it all over again if he needed to? It takes guts to be a kamikaze pilot. It takes bravery, honor, a will to protect, and no small lack of a self-preservation instinct. You don't just decide one day that you're gonna push someone out of the way of an oncoming nuke. Either you were gonna do it from the start or you weren't. There's no On/Off switch to it. It's really just that simple.

I should know. The number of people in this world that I consider important enough to me to take a bullet for is small enough to fit on one hand, but I can't count how many times I've done something brave, stupid, or absolutely suicidal in order to see them out of harm's way. If someone I care about is in serious trouble, I don't hesitate. I help them, and worry about what kind of fire I just put my own ass into afterwards.

Gai's exactly like that, Tyria. He knew that thing needed to be stopped, and if he had to blow himself and the 008L straight into oblivion to do it, so be it. If he had to do it again, I don't doubt for a second he would.

But it's one thing for such threats to come from outside. It's another if they come from within. Do you see what I'm trying to get at with this?

This isn't about you and me. We can hate each other or we could be drinking buddies, it wouldn't matter. My job is to eliminate threats to this fighting force. One giant monster is a freak accident. Two is either deliberate, or major signs of dangerous incompetency. Either way, it ranks as a threat. It's really just as simple as that.

Now, if we're on our way to the moon, good. I'm gonna start trying to figure out what to say to her to pull this one off...

Good.

After a warning surged out across the Galaxy Network telling everyone to stay away, all communication between Earth and the colonies was cut 30 minutes ago. 15 minutes ago, the nav charts were deleted.
5 minutes ago, the head honchos at Macross City started shitting bricks.
I imagine the fact that they're COMPLETELY irrelevant now instead of just MOSTLY irrelevant has something to do with it.

No matter what happens here, humanity will survive.

Now let's start working out how to make all of that into meaningless busywork.

...

I have to admit this is a little out of my league. Last ship that big that I know of was the zentradi flagship from Space War 1.
Of course, the zentradi brought millions of smaller battleships too. These guys seem to have JUST brought the flagship.

It looks pretty poorly defended. I don't see a single gun on it, and it's got no escort whatsoever, aside from those pathetic little bug mechs.
And THAT makes me more worried than anything.

Derek...say what you will, but I draw a line to hate between comrades when death threats begin appear. If you attack me during a battle, better it be a killing blow, because I'll do my best to finish you off and I don't mind if it is by my own hands or the enemy's.

Two giant monsters you said...I did anything besides the Giga-chan?

Remember...Earogaters can produce enough Megirot to cover up the Sun...they make up with numbers. At least it would be good if we hit their main Ze-Field crystal before they adapt to our forces.

Of course. It's always worse to see one ship than several million. If they send a million after you, most of them are usually fodder. If they only send one, it probably knows exactly what the hell it's doing. It's the Conversion of Ninjutsu in effect. If these guys had sent sixteen thousand or so of those things after us, I wouldn't be worried.

And I believe you missed my point entirely, Tyria. So, think whatever you want to think. I'm done trying to explain it.

Well, a million fodder ships is still a million ships shooting at you. Or at your planet.
Space War 1 was a pretty hollow victory. Even though most of the five million ships in the final battle were small fry, the Earth was utterly devastated. And it was only luck that kept it even marginally habitable.

A million ships might not be useful for fighting an enemy(just because they'll get in each other's way), but it's a great way to raze a planet.

That's what I'm worried about. They have one really big, seemingly undefended vessel. They seem totally unconcerned about their lack of defenses, and fully confident that they can wipe us off the face of the galaxy. They're either incredibly foolish, or they have enough hardware in reserve to follow through with the threat.
