Derek, you shouldn't have to worry too much about the rest. The VF-11 has an auto-eject system that blows the entire cockpit module free if the Thunderbolt takes fatal damage. And the cockpit module itself is fairly well-armored. As long as you don't blast the canopy, they should be fine.

YOU, on the other hand, are on the verge of death. Keep pushing yourself and you're gonna snap.

"VF-22 pilot, please identify yourself."

*keys comm*
Lieutenant Mason. Captain McQuade here. I wish I coudl say it was a pleasure to see you. And check your IFF. This isn't a Sturmvogel.

"The Omega One?!? How in the hell did you get THAT?!?!"

"Omega one? Wasn't that destroyed in the Sharon Apple incident?"
"I heard it was dismantled because it drove men crazy."
"Wasn't it assigned to the Phantoms?"
"De kalcha! The Phantoms aren't real!"

"Condor Squadron, cut the chatter!"

Lieutenant Mason, I'm asking you one more time. PLEASE stand down. There are things going on that you aren't aware of. You're a good man, I'd hate to see you die like this.

"I told you before, I can't do that. Certainly not without any evidence. And you've made a pretty big boast if you think you can kill me. Talk is cheap."

*sigh*
If you insist, lieutenant.

Ianator reporting. Those Gyans didn't stand a chance. I thought they were supposed to be high-performance melee specialists?

My current inventory is: One transforming katana, one flight suit, one Caster, various Caster shells, one gallant (including stock and barrel) and an optimistic attitude.

*YF-21 lands in GERWALK mode, carrying a crumpled mess that vaguely resembles the front of a VF-17. Jaybee leaps out and begins wrestling with what could possibly be construed as a canopy*

WE NEED A MEDIC ON THE FLIGHT DECK!
SOMEONE GIVE ME A HAND GETTING THIS OPEN!

*a little later*
All right, the lieutenant's in sickbay. They say he should be all right, but he got banged up pretty good.

Sume Gai, the cockpit recorders from those VF-11s are intact. You should be able to see all the pilot faces you want.

Ummm... we should be getting a squadron of Thunderbolt pilots walking in soon, by the way.
I kinda fired off a comm telling all the surviving pilots that can walk to head to the Durageiz, and they'll be given a roof and a hot meal. I'm gonna head out and recover the ones that can't in a minute. The VF-11 ejectors have radio beacons, so the Condors should be easy to find, at least. Don't think mobile suits usualy HAVE ejectors.
I'm sure it's a call you'd've made yourself, but I wanted to do this one. I think they trust me. I went out of my way to NOT kill their squad leader, after all.  Nearly got fragged for it, too. He's NOT a guy to pull punches on if you can help it.

Given we're in Bumfuck, Nowhere and their carrier's been wasted, they didn't have much of an option. Bask sure as hell isn't sending a recovery team, and their base commander's already filed a report saying the Condors launched without authorization.

My group is already working on that base commander, for the record. His report's being "lost" in the paperwork shuffle as we speak, and the actual launch orders have already been filed and backdated. The Condors are coming out of this exactly as they are: A good squadron with a bad base commander.

And I'm told the team working the commander has already found evidence of munitions from the base being skimmed off and shipped out to Bask. The brass at UN Spacey will HAVE to run him out once that comes to light. Regardless of their actual stance on the issue, they can't afford to LOOK like they support a blatantly corrupt officer.

I'll have a ride home arranged for the pilots as soon as I can, if you don't mind. We shouldn't be hosting them more than a few days.

*looks around*
Sir I'm aware that I'm not quite me looking like a clean-shaven boyscout here myself. I'll be glad to explain later if you'd like..

Right now, I've got a few pilots to rescue. Here's the beacon frequency, if anyone's up to lending a hand.
If I see any of Bask's men out there, I'll pick them up too. But personally, I think they know EXACTLY the kind of person they work for, and that doesn't exactly engender any feelings of goodwill towards them..
