pSX emulator issue with alpha gaiden

Not really looking for a solution, its probably from abusing savestates and frameskipping, but I thought this was worth sharing.

My copy of the game (I got it ages ago, don't remember from where) started getting weird around the middle of stage 42 (in hard mode). Ran perfectly till then (except the occasional expected bugs, missing names and such), here's a screen before I ran that stage:

...about halfway through I noticed my turn window suddenly listed 9999 blue stones. And when I finished this is what the next intermission looked like:

Somehow the bazaar was open again, "settings" was locked, I'd maxed the turn count, and I had a lot more funds/blue stones than I should've (which I spent before taking that shot).

Next stage (43) was listed 74, also.

Everything was normal, though, until the game froze after starting the second phase of the fight (after the story bit after beating zengar into joining you earth cradle). The game kept freezing at that part, so either I screwed things up only using savestates (might explain why I never got tifa as a subpilot) or else there's a bad (I think prepatched) bin floating about.

....I can't think of a worse moment for that game to freeze, though.

At the end of things, just-faiz the means.

That's what appears to be one seriously ugly overflow error.
